Cloth Label artist statement 2019
How to Take Care of Yourself 2, sterling silver, copper, reflector, paper, by Beiya Yang
Beiya Yang examines common objects, specifically interpreting the language of ubiquitous clothing labels. By extracting their contents, she creates new labels to express personal reflections on everyday routines and rituals. As jewelry, the tags’ inner language is exposed, inviting the wearer to consider their own contents, habits and needs.
Artist statement 2019
Relationships between people are complex and adaptable. Certain individuals will create specific feelings for some while others will culture entirely different emotions… But these complex emotions are not easily expressed with words. My work is inspired by the necessity to navigate these complicated relations despite that they are constantly in flux.
